Siesta Key at a glance

Siesta Key is a barrier island between Roberts Bay and the Gulf, with about 5,500 residents. Part of it is in the city of Sarasota; most is a census-designated place. Its four main districts are Siesta Beach, Crescent Beach, Turtle Beach and Siesta Key Village.

A key with many names

Known at times as Little Sarasota Key and Sarasota Key, the island was first developed in 1907 by the Siesta Land Company. Visitors came by boat until the first bridge opened in 1917; a second bridge at the southern end followed in 1927.
